Looking for a commission? J. Joyce’s Ulysses Exhibition
|
Untitled Document
To: all
composers registered with CMC Dear Composers,
Below follows
a very interesting commission opportunity.
The deadline
is close (Thurs 23rd Oct) since the whole Joyce exhibition project has 'come
to the boil' at rather short notice. Apologies for this, but I do urge you all
to consider submitting.
Best wishes, Eve
--- COMMISSION OPPORTUNITY James Joyces Ulysses Exhibition, Ireland
DEADLINE: 23 OCTOBER 2003
The Office of Public Works in conjunction with Orna Hanly Architect announces
two music commissions as part of the James Joyce Ulysses/Bloomsday centenary
celebrations in June 2004. A major exhibition on Ulysses is being designed and
will be shown in the National Library of Ireland for at least a year from April
2004. A number of artworks (including music) are being commissioned as part
of the exhibition (further details on the attached briefing document). Expressions
of interest are sought from Irish-born or domiciled composers in relation to
sound installations, electro-acoustic or acoustic works to act as integrated
sound components for two sections of the exhibition: the Sirens
episode and the Molly and Bloom section. The possibility of collaboration
between artists commissioned for the project from other disciplines, eg photography,
will be considered. Each work is likely to be in the region of ten minutes duration
and will be used in recorded form. Fees will be negotiated in accordance with
CMC/AIC Commission Guidelines and any expenses in relation to studio time, copying
etc. will be covered. Two commissioned composers will be chosen by a panel of
experts representing Orna Hanly Architect/OPW and the Contemporary Music Centre,
together with an independent expert of stature. The panels decision is
final. Apply by submitting: -- a short outline of initial ideas as expression
of interest (max. 300 words); -- an indication of which section of the exhibition
you are interested in writing for; -- a CV and complete work list; -- a list
of five recent compositions and/or recordings to be used as an indication of
your style and level of attainment (submit scores and recordings only if they
are NOT already in the CMC library). Applications by post or by email must reach
The Director, Contemporary Music Centre, 19 Fishamble Street, Dublin 8, by 5.00
pm on Thursday, 23 October 2003.
