Untitled Document

The University of Sheffield Sound Studios offers a number of postgraduate opportunities: 1. MA in Contemporary Music Studies, including a major project in composition 2. MMus in Composition (with dissertation) 3. MPhil/PhD in Composition (portfolio based)

USSS has a growing reputation for producing research in the following five areas: 1 Acousmatic music 2 Performance of electroacoustic music 3 Audio-Visual works 4 Software tools 5 Electroacoustic musicology and aesthetics.

USSS facilities have recently been upgraded to include a new suite of six PC/ Mbox stations with audio-visual authoring software. In addition we have 3 fully equipped, cross-platform studios including a new dual 1.8Ghz G5 + Digi002 (rack) room. All studios offer Genelec (1031A, 1032A) loudspeakers. Source recordings via AKG414, Neuman KM140, KM180 and Rode to 1Gb flash cards. Usual raft of software.

We are committed to performing all new compositions and often use the M2/super-diffuse system (designed, built and programmed in C++ by USSS researchers). Works from USSS are performed internationally and many are recognised at major competitions.

We have funding opportunities that waive the (European) fees for the most able candidates. Expressions of interest / further details from Adrian Moore at a.j.moore@shef.ac.uk
