============================================================
Dear friends, caros/as amigos/as,
--> Today’s newsletter is longer than usual, as Carneiro has been on a frantic and varied scheduled. The tours in Portugal (Schumann at the Fooles Journees, tickets sold out a week in advance) and UK (Belfast and London) where a huge success. The Schumann transcriptions of the Album for the Young, Op 68 have now entered Carneiro’s repertoire and he will be presenting recitals with this programme during 2004 in Portugal and Germany (SchumannFest in Düsseldorf). In Belfast (at Sonorities Festival, for the opening by Stockhausen of the brand new Sonic Arts Research Centre ), Pedro presented a recital with music for percussion and live electronics (with world premières by Pedro Rebelo and Cort Lippe) -- during 2004, he will be recording a CD with this passionante repertoire. Out of curiosity, I enclose a photo of the rehearsal in Belfast, of a work by ricardo Climent, scored for marimba, computer and gloves with tilt sensors.
--> Meanwhile, Pedro was distinguished by the President of the Portuguese Republic on the 30th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution of 25th April 1974, together with other 29 young artists. There is an article (portuguese only), which you can read at: <http://www.pedrocarneiro.com/images/expresso_25abril.jpg>
--> This week, Pedro is doing a masterclass at the Academia Nacional de Orquestra in Lisbon (where he will be resident professor, giving masterclasses every 3 months as from September 2004) -- next week, he is presenting a workshop at the Centro de Artes de Lisboa and conducting the Orchestra and Choir of the Conservatário Nacional de Música — then, he is off to Paris, to finish off the Xenakis recording for Zig-Zag Territoires.
--> To end today’s newsletter: as from the beginning of May, the pedrocarneiro.com team is using the software TWIGGI <http://www.twiggi.org/>, a remarkable productivity suite. This app is open source (totally free) and works on any server running the Linux operating system – a big thank you and special hug to Wouter Broers for having set-up the system!
