Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra:Young composers competition
 
Canadian Music Centre Prairie Region EMERGING COMPOSER COMPETITION 2005 The CMC Prairie Region invites emerging composers to enter this annual competition to be produced in 2005 with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Eligibility: Composers age thirty-five and younger as of October 31, 2004 who are current residents of, were born in, or who have completed a substantial portion of their musical education in Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba may enter. Eligibility should be addressed in a cover letter. Entrants are eligible to win the prize once only. Entrants will submit a score and must include a recording of their work on CD. MIDI recordings will not be accepted. Instrumentation: Entries should be scored for an ensemble of up to five instruments of the orchestra, one of which may be piano. Performers will be drawn from the contracted core of the orchestra. Prize: One prize consisting of $1,000 and a performance of the winning work at a concert of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra New Music Festival (January 29 - February 4, 2005) will be awarded. The winner will be chosen by an independent jury. Deadline: Submissions must be postmarked no later than October 31, 2004. Submissions: Applicants must send four copies of the score and four copies of the CD recording. The scores should be stapled once in the upper left hand corner. Scores and recordings should not be identified by name in order to preserve anonymity. Applicants must include a cover letter.
