Pusar: Montreal Planetarium Serie PULSAR, a new concert series from RÉSEAUX, at the Montreal PLANETARIUM RÉSEAUX and empreintes DIGITALes present PUZZLES A first for empreintes DIGITALes:
The presentation and launch of Robert Normandeau's first Surround DVD Monday, December 6 2004, 8 p.m. Robert Normandeau is releasing his fifth solo disc, Puzzles, which will come out in DVD audio surround format-a first for empreintes DIGITALes.
For Réseaux, which produced the RIEN À VOIR concert series, this will mark the launch of a new series, PULSAR, at the Montreal Planetarium. For music lovers, this will be an opportunity to see and hear Puzzles at the Montréal Planetarium on December 6 at 8 p.m. Robert Normandeau's new disc features concert works created from the stage music for five plays directed by Brigitte Haentjens. These productions, which were staged between 2001 and 2003, are Hamlet-Machine (Heiner Müller, Union Française, 2001), Mademoiselle Julie (August Strindberg, Espace GO, 2001), Antigone (Sophocles, Trident, 2002), L'Éden cinéma (Marguerite Duras, MACM, 2003) and Les farces conjugales (Georges Feydeau, Rideau-Vert, 2003). As each of these plays has given birth to concert versions, we now have the opportunity to hear Hamlet-Machine with Actors (2003), StrinGDberg (2001), Chorus (2002), Éden (2003) and Puzzles (2003) on disc.

All of these works were commissioned by producers from either here or abroad; some of them have never before been performed in concert in Montreal. Hamlet-Machine with Actors was commissioned by Vancouver New Music in 2003 and has never been heard live in Montreal. StrinGDberg, the final version of which has never been performed in Montreal, was commissioned by the Groupe de recherches musicales de Paris (2001). Chorus was commissioned by Réseaux (2002) and has been heard both here and elsewhere a number of times. Éden was a commission from the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Marseille (2003) that has never been heard live in Montreal. Finally, Puzzles was commissioned by Victoria's Open Space Gallery (2003); it has never been performed in Montreal before either. PUZZLES This fifth solo disc will be produced in 5.1 format, which will provide listeners with a full appreciation of the multiphonic sound spatialization of the concert versions. These will be presented in 16-track format at the Montreal Planetarium.
The composer had to remix all of the pieces in order to ensure compatibility with the 5.1 format used by home theatre systems, and this will open up a spectacular new aspect to this music.
The package will also include a stereo version.Information: (514) 527-4735 -
