Faculty Position in Music Technology
The Department of Theory, Faculty of Music, McGill University, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Music Technology at the
rank of Assistant Professor. The Department invites immediate applications from researchers with a background in computer science/engineering and music. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development and expansion of a Ph.D. program in this field and will also participate in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). This centre is dedicated to innovative scientific and technological research applied to music, with members drawn from the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine, and Science, as well as from the Faculty of Music.
The new professor will be part of the Music Technology Area that offers both undergraduate (B. Mus.) and graduate degrees (M.A. and Ph.D.).
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in an engineering or in a scientific area, have experience in teaching at university level, and have demonstrated an interest in working topics related to music.
Preference will be given to applicants whose research specialization is
in one or more of the following areas:
(a) Musical acoustics and acoustic modeling of musical instruments
(b) Software design for digital audio processing and sound synthesis
(c) Music input device design and evaluation
(d) Sound perception and psychoacoustic studies
(e) Sound analysis and synthesis
An active research profile is required that will complement the existing research directions on audio analysis and synthesis,
interactive performance systems, distributed digital music libraries, and music perception and cognition. Teaching duties will entail the
teaching of undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, and the supervision of graduate students in Music Technology. The salary is
