Summer course: Venice on the interpretation of Nono's La fabbrica illuminata

Course for female voices and sound projectionists on the interpretation of Luigi Nono's "La fabbrica illuminata" for female voice and 4-channel tape (1964)

With Liliana Poli and Alvise Vidolin

November 14-19, 2005, Venice, Italy

Description: The course will consist of 2 days of introduction to historical, analytical and pedagogical aspects of the composition (Introduction to the sources - The problem of notation in Luigi Nono's music - The aesthetics of the compositions with magnetic tape - The possibility of a pedagogical approach - Electronics and space) followed by 4 days of practical lessons. It will end with a public concert by the participants. Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance.

Teachers: Liliana Poli and Alvise Vidolin, historical performers of the work, will lead the practical part of the course, while musicologists Nina Jozefowicz and Veniero Rizzardi and professors of music education Cristina Fedrigo and Maria Giovanna Miggiani will make theoretical contributions.

Where: The course will take place in Venice: at the Archivio Luigi Nono, at the Conservatory "Benedetto Marcello" and at the Giorgio Cini Foundation.

Languages: The main language of the course will be Italian. The teaching of sound projection can also be done in English.

Active participants: 7 female voices and 7 sound projectionists/audiodesigners will be admitted as active participants. A fee of 150 EUROs is to be paid to the Venice Conservatory (the course is free for students of the Venice Conservatory).

Auditors: A fee of 40 EUROs is to be paid to the Venice Conservatory (the course is free for students of the Venice Conservatory or students of universities in the Veneto region).

Requirements for the singers: The range of the female voice part is from c' to g''. The singers should also be able to speak with different intonations and expressions.

Requirements for the sound projectionists/audiodesigners: Preferential admission will be given to those with the following qualifications: a diploma in electronic music and/or experience in the design, installation, and performance of electroacoustic musical systems.

In the event that there are less applications than available spaces, applications will be accepted after the deadline.

Accommodation: For active participants, multiple-occupancy rooms close to the Conservatory will be available at a rate of approx. 30/35 EURO per person per night. Upon request, the Archivio Luigi Nono can provide a list of inexpensive hostels in Venice.
